Sportswear giant Anta Sports has expanded its international brand portfolio with the completion of its USD290 million acquisition of German outdoor brand Jack Wolfskin on 31 May. Morgan Lewis and Latham & Watkins advised the parties.

Morgan Lewis acted as Anta Sports’ legal counsel, with its cross-border team including Hong Kong-based partners Edwin Luk, Connie Cheung and Keith Cheung; Munich-based partners Florian Harder and Jann Jetter; Frankfurt-based partners Michael Masling and Walter Ahrens; and US-based partner Randall Wood.

Latham & Watkins advised Jack Wolfskin’s parent company Topgolf Callway Brands on the sale, US-based partners Craig Garner and Kevin Reyes, and Germany-based partner Leif Schrader led the legal advisory team.

Founded in Germany, Jack Wolfskin is a leading brand in outdoor apparel, footwear and equipment. The Anta Sports disclosure document states its brand can benefit from Jack Wolfskin’s exclusive material technologies and the experience of its German engineering and design team, further strengthening the company’s outdoor segment.

In recent years, Anta Sports has built a large brand portfolio through ongoing acquisitions. Its New York-listed Finnish subsidiary Amer Sports, owns several well-known brands including Salomon, Wilson and Arc’teryx.
