The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has introduced an online dispute resolution system to ease dispute settlements in the Indian securities market.
This platform, known as the SMART ODR portal – securities market approach for resolution through online dispute resolution – aims to streamline the resolution process and is designed for investors. It’s the outcome of extensive public consultations and collaborative efforts among market infrastructure institutions guided by the SEBI.
SMART ODR is accessible at https://smartodr.in/login. Investors can use it either after exhausting other options or as the first point of redress.
If an investor’s grievance remains unsolved after attempting to address it with the market participant, and escalating through the SCORES (SEBI complaints redress system) portal, they can initiate dispute resolution through the ODR portal.
SMART ODR aims to boost transparency, fairness and impartiality in dispute resolution, fostering trust in the process. The initiative is set to elevate the standard of dispute resolution facilities available to investors, ultimately benefiting the entire securities market.
