In Dr Balram Prasad & Ors v Dr Kunal Saha and others, the Supreme Court directed Kolkata-based AMRI Hospital and three of its doctors to pay ₹59.6 million (US$944,000) plus interest in compensation to Indian-American doctor Kunal Saha for medical negligence that led to his wife’s death in 1998. This is a record high for a Supreme Court compensation order for medical negligence.
