Nishimura & Asahi has added Sean Conaty as its newest partner, fortifying the firm’s project finance and M&A sectors. Following a brief initial period in Tokyo, Conaty will relocate to the firms offices in Vietnam from where he will cover Southeast Asian regional work, the Tokyo-based firm said in a statement.

Prior to joining Nishimura & Asahi, Conaty served as a partner at Hunton Andrews Kurth in Tokyo from 2021. He was a partner at Hogan Lovells in Tokyo and Singapore, following his tenure at Allen & Overy in Bangkok in 2012.

Bringing more than two decades of experience to the table, Conaty is an expert in project development, financing and transactional endeavours across energy and infrastructure projects. His advisory scope encompasses an array of stakeholders, including sponsors, borrowers, lenders and governmental entities.

Conaty’s addition contributes to the firm’s expansion initiatives, as Nishimura & Asahi actively bolstered its ranks with seasoned professionals from international law firms in recent years. Noteworthy additions include Alexander Woody, an energy and natural resources specialist, who joined the Tokyo office from White & Case in 2022, and Christopher Osborne, a cross-border expert, who joined as a partner at SCL Nishimura & Asahi in Thailand in 2023, transitioning from Watson Farley & Williams.
