Finance and restructuring partner Andrew Brereton will become the new managing partner at King & Spalding’s Singapore office, succeeding Kelly Malone. Brereton joined the firm in 2019 after spending more than two decades at Clifford Chance in Singapore, where he was a partner since 2008.

“As we emerge from the covid pandemic, we continue to focus on the most complex and challenging transactions and disputes in the region,” Brereton told Asia Business Law Journal. “We are growing in our traditional areas of strength, such as energy and international arbitration, at the same time as building further depth in our broader M&A, and finance and restructuring practices.”

Having closed a number of high-profile transactions in the first half of 2022, Brereton expected to make further strategic investments to strengthen the firm.

Brereton is included in India Business Law Journal’s International A-List 2022, which recognises the top 100 India-focused legal experts who are based outside of the country at international law firms, along with other King & Spalding partners Parveet Singh Gandoak in Singapore and Rahul Patel in Atlanta, Georgia, in the US.

“India remains an incredibly important jurisdiction for us,” said Brereton. “We remain very active on a variety of complex legal matters relating to India or for Indian clients, including M&A, financing and disputes, especially involving cross-border issues, and we expect our India practice to continue to grow strongly over the next 12 months.”
