Yu Yaowu

Introduction

Yu Yaowu holds a master’s degree in Civil and Commercial Law and is a PhD candidate in Law (China). He is a first-grade lawyer in China, a senior partner of Dentons, and the managing partner of its Jilin office. His roles at Dentons include serving as a member of the China advisory committee and the joint party committee, among others.

He serves as a member of the lawyer industry rating and evaluation committee of the All China Lawyers Association; the vice president of the 8th Jilin Provincial Lawyers Association; the vice supervisory chairperson of the 9th Jilin Provincial Lawyers Association; the supervisory chairperson of the 5th Jilin City Lawyers Association; the honourary president of the 6th Jilin City Lawyers Association; a guest professor at Beihua University; and a master’s supervisor.

His accolades include being twice awarded the title of “National Outstanding Lawyer” by the Ministry of Justice and the All China Lawyers Association; being honoured as one of the “Top 10 Most Popular Lawyers for Chinese Private Enterprises”; being recognised in the Chambers Greater China Guide for three consecutive years (2023 to 2025); selection as a “Visionary” in China Business Law Journal’s “The A-List” awards; and receiving the “Special Contribution Award” of the Jilin province lawyer industry and the “Outstanding Lawyer with 30 Years of Practice in Jilin Province” award. He has 42 years of experience in the legal field.

His career includes a decade serving as a judge, followed by 33 years in legal practice, during which he founded Dentons (Jilin) Law Firm. Under his leadership, the office has earned honours such as the “National Advanced Grassroots Party Organisation in the Lawyer Industry”, “Most Popular Law Firm among Chinese Private Enterprises”, “Jilin Province May 1st Labour Award” and “Jilin Province Outstanding Law Firm”.

His clients include both party and government agencies and business enterprises across Jilin province. He has handled a large number of civil and commercial dispute cases. He also has extensive experience in defending duty-related crimes, having served as defence counsel in more than 30 cases for clients ranging from senior officials to business leaders.
