Introduction
Gu Shuiyang graduated from Southwest University of Political Science and Law with a bachelor of law and East China University of Political Science and Law with a master of law. Gu engaged in legal education and research for an extended period, with numerous academic papers published and legal books written, and he also gained in-house practical experience while working for foreign-invested enterprises. After transitioning to legal practice, he has focused on commercial dispute resolution, corporate governance, and compliance. With over 20 years of practice, he has been recognised as a senior lawyer.
Gu serves as legal counsel for dozens of Fortune 500 companies, large state-owned enterprises and listed companies. He has long represented clients in litigation and arbitration cases at various levels of courts and commercial arbitration institutions. His service spans industries such as automotive and industrial manufacturing, Internet and e-commerce, real estate and construction, as well as health care and pharmaceuticals.
He has extensive experience in handling complex commercial disputes, and some of the cases he has managed were selected for inclusion in the Shanghai State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission’s Selected Cases of State-Owned Enterprise Litigation.
Gu has also been appointed as an arbitrator and mediator by several commercial arbitration and mediation institutions, and he serves as a consulting expert on civil and administrative supervision cases for the Supreme People’s Procuratorate. This dual perspective, both as a party representative and a decision-maker, allows him to provide clients with comprehensive and objective analysis and guidance at the strategic level, striving for substantive resolutions of cases.
Gu also serves as a council member of the Hongkou District Law Society in Shanghai, and he was a member of the Pharmaceutical and Health Committee of the 9th and 10th terms of the Shanghai Bar Association. He also served as an interview examiner for trainee lawyers in the 10th and 11th terms of the Shanghai Bar Association.
Due to his achievements in dispute resolution, Gu was named among Growth Drivers by the China Business Law Journal in 2023. He has also led his team to multiple victories, earning the China Business Law Journal’s China Business Law Awards in the fields of Internet and e-commerce and automotive, industrials and manufacturing.
