Introduction
Bill Ye possesses over two decades of expertise in Chinese taxation, with an extensive background spanning corporate finance, organisational restructuring, international listings, transfer pricing, and both compliance and dispute resolution in tax law. Ye is especially adept at providing innovative, comprehensive, and feasible solutions for new and complex matters. He serves clients across a broad range of industries, including telecommunications, media and technology, manufacturing, retail, finance, real estate, medicine and entertainment.
Ye advises on private equity investment, outbound investment, foreign direct investment, domestic and cross-border M&A and reorganisation, etc. He has assisted well-known companies in establishing and improving their compliance systems.
Ye has handled many major tax-related investigations, administrative reviews, administrative and criminal lawsuits and arbitrations. He has advised on transfer pricing planning for all kinds of related party transactions, facilitated the application of bilateral advanced pricing arrangements, and assisted with transfer pricing investigation and defence. He helps high-net-worth individuals manage their wealth and plan individual income taxes. He also has extensive experience in employee stock ownership plans and cross-border M&A deals.
From 2016 to 2024, Ye has consistently been ranked as a First-Class Lawyer and a Leading Lawyer in Tax (PRC) by The Legal 500, Chambers Asia Pacific and Chambers Greater China. Ye was named Managing Partner of the Year: East China by ALB and was also honoured with the title of The A-List 2023-24: Visionaries by China Business Law Journal.
Before joining King & Wood Mallesons in 2014, Ye worked at Deloitte Shanghai as a tax partner and worked in the Deloitte Atlanta office in the US for two years, advising primarily on international tax planning and transfer pricing matters.
Ye is the director of the Financial and Tax Law Research Association of the China Law Association, the director of the Finance and Tax Law Research Association of the Shanghai Municipal Law Society, a senior researcher at the China Tax Institute of Large Business, a member of the Sixth Academic Committee of the China International Taxation Research Institute and an academic member of the Beijing Taxation Institute. He also acts as an external tutor at several prestigious universities including Peking University and Fudan University.
Ye graduated from Xiamen University with an international law degree. He qualified as a Chinese Institute of Certified Public Accountants professional and was admitted to the PRC Bar. Ye’s working languages are Chinese and English.
