Introduction

Liu Yi, senior partner of the Guangzhou office of Jincheng Tongda & Neal, holds a Master’s in Civil and Commercial Law from China University of Political Science and Law, and a Bachelor’s in Engineering from Northeast Electric Power University. He specialises in complex dispute resolution, M&A, investment and financing, real estate and infrastructure, and energy and natural resources, while also serving as an independent director, commercial arbitrator and part-time lecturer.

He led the independent investigation into a HK-listed company’s RMB13.4 billion (USD1.9 billion) deposit pledge case, recognised as a Legal One 2025 Exemplary Case, and awarded the Asialaw Profiles 2024 “Editor’s Choice – Impact Deal of the Year”. He also advised on a RMB38 billion talent island project in the Greater Bay Area, recognised as a Guangdong exemplary case, and won the top prize in the Guangdong Outstanding Legal Documents Competition for a RMB160 million land use rights dispute. His work on a non-grid power supply case was selected as a model practice by the China Electricity Council.

He was recognised as one of the 2025 ALB CHINA Top 15 Client-Recommended Lawyers in South China; and consecutively recommended in The Legal 500 China rankings for 2026 and 2025 in the Real Estate and Construction category. He has also been named among the 2025 GRCD China Top 15 Client-Recommended Real Estate and Construction Lawyers; the 2025 LegalOne Greater Bay Area Law Awards Top 15 Real Estate and Urban Renewal Lawyers in China; and a Distinguished Dispute Resolution (Litigation) Lawyer on the Minglvtang China Legal Pioneers List. He has also been repeatedly honoured with professional accolades from provincial and municipal lawyers associations, including Outstanding Committee Member awards, Achievement in Practice awards (covering projects such as independent investigations for listed companies, large-scale trust loan dispute series, foreign-related joint venture real estate development retrial cases before the Supreme People’s Court, and specialised island development projects), as well as Academic Contribution awards (Monographs on property rights protection and real estate registration disputes).
