Nick Shu

Introduction

Nick Shu joined Han Kun in July 2021, bringing a unique blend of legal expertise and corporate strategy experience. He advises a diverse roster of clients, including private equity and venture capital funds, strategic investors, portfolio companies and multinational corporations. His practice covers complex cross-border M&A, private equity investment, foreign direct investment, capital markets and general corporate matters. Prior to joining Han Kun, he served as director of corporate development at a top-tier Chinese e-commerce group from 2018 to 2021. In this in-house capacity, he played a pivotal role in the group’s US IPO and subsequent follow-on offerings. His responsibilities extended to driving the group’s strategic investments and M&A, as well as managing overseas investor relations and government relations. Earlier in his career, Shu practised at prominent international firms, including Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, and White & Case, as well as another leading Chinese law firm. He began his professional career as a tax consultant at a “Big Four” accounting firm.

Shu has guided clients through high-profile and complex transactions, with a particular focus on the consumer and technology, media and telecommunications (TMT) sectors. Recent mandates include representing Beijing SKP, a luxury mall in Beijing, in its strategic sale of equity to a consortium led by Boyu Capital, advising The Carlyle Group in connection with the potential acquisition of Starbucks China’s business, and representing J&T Express in its acquisition of BEST Inc’s express delivery business in China.
