Baker McKenzie Wong & Leow, the Singapore member firm of Baker McKenzie, has added capital market specialist Alexander Stathopoulos as a principal from A&O Shearman.

Stathopoulos brings more than 20 years of experience in international capital markets with a focus on cross-border equity offerings in Southeast Asia.

“We are seeing investors increasingly using Singapore as a gateway for Southeast Asian investments,” James Huang, managing principal at Baker McKenzie Wong & Leow told Asia Business Law Journal. “Having Alexander on board enhances our ability to deliver this expertise seamlessly.”

Before joining Baker McKenzie Wong & Leow, Stathopoulos worked at A&O Shearman for 24 years from 2001 to 2025 and was promoted to partner in 2014. During his time at A&O Shearman, he regularly advised issuers, underwriters, selling shareholders and investment banks on large and complex listings.

For example, Stathopoulos advised on international IPOs by Vietnamese issuers including VietJet as well as IPOs in Thailand and in Malaysia, including Thai Credit Bank and Farm Fresh.

Beyond his equity capital markets expertise, Stathopoulos also regularly advises corporate and sovereign debt offerings and liability management transactions, and other aspects of US federal securities laws impacting foreign private issuers.

Baker McKenzie has recently expanded its roster of lawyers across the Asia-Pacific region, with Stathopoulos being one of the new additions. In the past 12 months, the firm recruited Chris Milliken in Vietnam from Freshfields and Bryan Paisley in Sydney from Hogan Lovells, as partners.
