Introduction
Bai Xiao has an interdisciplinary professional background. After earning a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from Tsinghua University, she obtained both a Juris Doctor degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law and a Master of Laws (LLM) in international arbitration from the University of Chicago Law School.
In 2009, Bai was licensed to practice law in the US state of Illinois. She worked as a litigator in patent law at Barnes & Thornburg LLP in Chicago before joining Beijing BZW Law Firm in 2011. She specialises in international commercial law and dispute resolution. In 2012, she obtained her legal qualification in China and became an international legal adviser (partner level) at Beijing BZW Law Firm.
She became a partner at the firm in 2014, was elected to the supervisory board in 2020, and was appointed to the Executive Committee in 2023.
With her engineering background, Bai provides consulting on various transactions involving technology transfer, licensing and other strategic developments. She has extensive experience in resolving international disputes and is adept at integrating civil law and common law knowledge.
Bai is not only an expert in litigation and arbitration but also excels in developing precise and effective solutions for clients through mediation and negotiation, securing the best possible outcomes.
Bai has long focused on cross-border commercial legal services, mastering international legal rules and procedures. She is skilled at co-ordinating legal differences across jurisdictions, providing seamless cross-border legal services for her clients. She serves as a long-term legal adviser to numerous large enterprises, offering comprehensive legal support for international clients entering the Chinese market and for Chinese clients expanding overseas.
Her services include company structure design, business partner identification, due diligence on international trade and cross-border investment, as well as drafting and reviewing contracts, corporate governance documents and other documents. Bai has represented numerous large enterprises in resolving their foreign investment and trade disputes. She is proficient in attending international arbitration hearings in English and advancing the recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitration awards in China and abroad.
