Introduction

Zhang Lixia, a founding partner and director of Hua Mao & Gui Gu Law Firm, has been engaged in legal practice since 1985 and arbitration work since 1995. As a lawyer and an arbitrator, she has handled more than 1,500 major domestic and international commercial arbitration disputes, hundreds of which with dispute amounts exceeding RMB100 million (USD13.75m). She is especially proficient in handling commercial arbitration cases in fields such as trusts and funds, insurance, equity investment, real estate and construction engineering.

Zhang is an arbitrator for many well-known domestic and international arbitration institutions, including the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission, the Beijing Arbitration Commission, the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, the Sharm el-Sheikh International Arbitration Centre, the Singapore International Arbitration Centre, the Shanghai Arbitration Commission, the Guangzhou Arbitration Commission, and the China Sports Arbitration Commission. She has won the trust of clients, having accumulated rich experience in commercial arbitration hearings.

Zhang is also a director of the All China Lawyers Association’s arbitration and lawyer mediation professional committee, the vice president of China Academy of Arbitration Law, a co-chair of Women In Arbitration of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, and chair of the American Arbitration Association International Centre for Dispute Resolution’s Greater China committee. She was a part-time professor and an external tutor for postgraduate students at universities such as the University of International Business and Economics, China University of Political Science and Law, and Peking University, contributing to the cultivation of younger talent in international commercial arbitration and dispute resolution.

With her senior practical experience, Zhang has been consecutively recognised as an “eminent practitioner” in the dispute resolution (arbitration) category by Chambers and Partners, as one of “China’s Most Popular Arbitrators”, and recommended by The Legal 500 in dispute resolution (arbitration). She is also a recipient of the “National Outstanding Lawyer” award and is among the first batch of foreign-related lawyer talents selected by the Ministry of Justice.
