Simmons & Simmons expands the UK firm’s dispute resolution team in Singapore, adding international commercial dispute resolution and investigations specialist Lijun Chui as a partner from Bird & Bird.

Emily Monastiriotis, Simmons & Simmons’ international head of dispute resolution based in London, said in a 24 June LinkedIn post that Chui’s arrival “marked a significant milestone for our firm as we had more than doubled the size of our dispute resolution team in Singapore over the last six months”.

The addition of Chui, who was previously a partner at Bird & Bird, has come around four months after experienced litigator Terence Seah joined the UK firm’s Singapore office as a partner from the Stephenson Harwood (Singapore) Alliance. Disputes partner Steve Kaye, who is currently based in London, will also be joining the firm’s team in Singapore in July this year.

Qualified in both Singapore and the UK, Chui had practised as an associate director at Drew & Napier and a counsel at Clifford Chance before her move to Bird & Bird in 2020. With her expertise in dispute resolution and contentious regulatory matters, the Singapore-based disputes lawyer has represented clients in commercial, infrastructure, oil and gas and construction disputes before international arbitration tribunals, including the Singapore International Arbitration Centre.

In the LinkedIn post, Monastiriotis also said the addition of the former Bird & Bird partner “bolstered our capabilities in areas including cybersecurity, data and emerging technology”.
