William Setiawan Palijama graduated from the University of Indonesia’s Faculty of Law in 1996.
He began practising law in Indonesia in 1997 and has been admitted as a licensed advocate under the Indonesian Advocates Association (PERADI) since 1999. He specialises in commercial and general litigation, arbitration and dispute resolution in various industries. His areas of expertise include criminal, civil, capital markets, state administrative, and industrial relations, among others. William also specialises in bankruptcy and suspension of payment, labour and employment, and land disputes.
William also has broad experience working with national and multinational companies in industries such as oil and gas, power plant, pharmaceutical, life sciences, plantation, aviation, and freight forwarding, and others. His expertise allows him to create an atmosphere of fairness and trust in delicate negotiations, even when dealing with hostile parties.
William assisted one of the major power plant operation and maintenance companies and other clients in developing and maintaining a whistle-blower system to ensure compliance and integrity among the company’s employees and managers.
Before establishing William Hendrik & Siregar Djojonegoro, formerly William & Hendrik, William worked with a major international law firm in Jakarta and served as a litigation partner at one of the top Indonesian boutique law firms, where he developed his skill set.
William is an active member of the Indonesia Labour Law Consultant Association. He is passionate about developing the next generation of lawyers and is currently establishing a Personal Data Protection practice group in the law firm, following the enactment of Indonesia’s first-ever Personal Data Protection Law. Additionally, he is establishing a cybercrime practice group and other relevant practice groups in anticipation of the rapid technological changes led by digital technologies, which sometimes lead to illegal practices.
Outside of his legal practice, William enjoys listening to music, playing golf, and developing stories and ideas for musical shows.
