Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan has announced the opening of a Singapore branch, its 10th office in Asia, as the firm sees increased demand for international arbitration within the city-state.

“We have had significant Singapore nexus work for many years but with the evolution of Southeast Asia and India, and the growing importance of Singapore globally, it became increasingly clear we needed to have a physical presence on the ground,” said John Quinn, founder and chairman at Quinn Emanuel.

Duncan Watson – a King’s Counsel, a partner in the international arbitration practice group and a 13-year veteran of the firm – will relocate to lead the new office. He will be supported by Asia managing partner John Rhie, who heads the firm’s international arbitration practice in Asia.

The new Singapore office will adhere to the city-state’s foreign licence practitioner regulations and focus on international arbitration, multi-jurisdictional litigation, international regulatory advice and investigations.

Quinn Emanuel is one of the few law firms in Asia to offer their own in-house arbitration-specialist KC.
