Building Smart Law Firms, AI Empowered Lawyers! China Commercial Organizes "ChatGPT in the Legal Profession - Opportunities and Challenges" Seminar
Since its release, ChatGPT has taken the world by storm with its high-tech take on generalized artificial intelligence, and its emergence marks the rise of AI technology to a higher level.In the age of AI, every industry is focused on the impact and change that ChatGPT will bring, and so is the legal field. As a Goldman Sachs report puts it, “44% of legal jobs will be impacted by ChatGPT.” There are both opportunities and challenges for the legal profession, and those who capitalize on this opportunity will achieve a new level of competitiveness.
In order to jointly explore the possible application of ChatGPT in the legal field and explore more possibilities of AI in the legal field, the expert lecture “Application of ChatGPT in the Legal Profession – Opportunities and Challenges” was held on August 16th in the International Conference Center of China Commercial Law Firm Headquarters. This expert lecture was hosted by China Commercial Law Firm and organized by China Commercial Professional and Business Operation Center. Prof. Zhang Lixing, the current founder of Little Faber Legal Lab and the Chief Technical Advisor of Shenzhen International Arbitration Court, was invited to deliver the lecture, aiming at clarifying the conveniences and risks that the in-depth application of ChatGPT-type technology brings to the legal industry and its practitioners, and proposing new conceptual outlooks.
This expert seminar was hosted by China Commercial and organized by China Commercial Professional and Business Operation Center. Prof. Zhang Lixing, an international economic jurist, computer and law expert, founder of Chinalawinfo, current founder of Legal Lab, and Chief Technical Advisor of Shenzhen International Arbitration Court, was invited to give the lecture, and Chen Meiting, Director of Professional and Business Operation of China Commercial, was the host. Director Gao Shu, chief partner of China Commercial, Managing Partner Wu Bo, Senior Partners Guo Jian and Ji Tongyan, Partners He Honglei, Yuan Yongjun, Li Xinmiao and Wang Qianlin, Director of Firm Operation Center Chen Xia, Information Technology Center Zeng Yiwen and Zhang Lingfang attended the seminar, and there were also Shenzhen Notary Public Office, a number of State-owned Enterprises, Central Enterprises, General Manager of Law of Enterprises, and nearly 60 people from lawyers’ industry attended the seminar. The whole room was full. The number of online participants was nearly one hundred and fifty, and the atmosphere was high and interactive.
Starting from the concept of ChatGPT and combining with his years of research experience, Prof. Zhang Lixing analyzed and explained one by one the development history, technical framework, and application paths of ChatGPT at home and abroad, and shared the opportunities and challenges, conveniences and risks it brings to lawyers.
In the keynote sharing, Prof. Zhang skillfully embedded three cases as an entry point to introduce the utility of ChatGPT in Q&A output, text element extraction, and assisting in adjudicating cases, and put forward the outlook and expectation that “today’s legal person is a person who uses artificial intelligence”.The application of ChatGPT technology in legal services has unlimited potential. This expert seminar has a question and answer session, the guests and online participants are enthusiastically asked questions, the atmosphere of the scene is warm, frequent interaction. Prof. Zhang answered one by one, providing pertinent, incisive guidance, and live demonstration of ChatGPT practical steps to further deepen the knowledge of the participants.
Finally, Mr. Gao Shu, the chief partner of China Commercial, made a summary speech for this expert lecture. Mr. Gao Shu said that due to the vigorous appeal and strong call from the academia, lawyers should pay attention to the construction of the legal system in the era of AI and construct cutting-edge thinking, and the people of China Commercial should uphold the spirit of “good wind, send me to the blue clouds” to keep on learning and utilize the emerging technology to consolidate their own advantages.
This expert lecture is full of dry goods, both theoretical height, but also close to the practical operation, thorough analysis, rich in content, high level, online and offline participants have said that they have benefited greatly and gained a lot.
AI technology and big data models are gradually being embraced and applied by various industries, and as Prof. Zhang said, “whoever is the first to master the disruptive technology that affects the whole human society is likely to have a first-mover advantage in this onslaught of change.”
