Partners Ash Tiwari, Hani Naja and Joy K Gallup are now on the steering committee of Baker Mckenzie’s global India practice group.

The steering committee comprises partner representatives from its global platform who are actively engaged in India-related matters, and are responsible for developing and implementing strategy for the global India practice group.

Tiwari, a corporate/M&A partner based in the London office, specialises in domestic and cross-border private M&A, joint ventures, restructurings, reorganisations, listed company advice, and corporate governance. Previously, she was at Allen & Overy for more than a decade as corporate/M&A counsel.

Tiwari advises international investors, particularly from Europe and the US, investing in various sectors, especially in infrastructure and industrials, in India. She also regularly advises Indian corporates acquiring assets outside the nation. She will further assist clients with their expansion plans in India.

Naja, also a corporate/M&A partner, is based in the UAE. His practice focuses on M&A, joint ventures, corporate reorganisations and post-acquisition integration, as well as corporate structuring, foreign direct investment and market entry in the Middle East, especially the UAE and Qatar. Naja was previously at DLA Piper and P&G.

With a focus on enhancing access to markets, Naja will facilitate strategic partnerships, and help Indian companies with their expansion plans in the Middle East as well as assist Mideast companies and sovereign funds with their growth plans in India.

Gallup is a corporate and securities partner operating from the New York office. Having previously worked at Paul Hastings, Dewey LeBoeuf and Milbank as a partner, she has extensive experience in a wide array of cross-border corporate finance transactions.

Her expertise includes cross-border liability management, distressed and high-yield debt, green bonds, project bond offerings, syndicated loans, and structured debt products such as securitisation and monetisation.

As trade and investment relations between Latin America and India continue to deepen, Gallup will work closely with colleagues in the India practice to assist clients tapping into the abundant opportunities of the subcontinent.

Other steering committee members are chair Ashok Lalwani, Aarthi Belani, Ashish Chugh, Adolfo Duranona, Emmanuel Hadjidakis, Samantha Mobley, Philippe Reich, Virusha Subban, Teresa Tovar, Peerapan Tungsuwan, and Mini vandePol.

“I would like to welcome our appointees to the steering committee. They not only bring with them a wealth of diverse experience and legal knowhow to our broad-based India practice, but they will help us to better capture opportunities arising from the ever-increasing business between India and the UK, the UAE and the US,” said Lalwani, chair of the global India practice.
