Introduction

Jim Bradley is a partner in the firm Hunton Andrews Kurth. He focuses on cross-border power projects in multiple countries in Southeast Asia and commercial and hospitality related real estate projects in Thailand. He has supported all aspects of negotiating, due diligence and risk evaluation, advising, and mitigation, and documenting agreements for or relating to development activities, joint ventures, sponsor and equity participation, management, financing, engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC), operation and maintenance (O&M), management services, procurement and supply, dispute resolution, claims enforcement, workouts, divestitures, and acquisitions (M&A). Starting his practice with Hunton & Williams in 1994 in the United States, he has been based in Asia since 2000 with Hunton & Williams and after its 2018 merger with Andrews Kurth Kenyon, Hunton Andrews Kurth.

Recent or ongoing work involves:

  • development and structuring work for a proposed liquified natural gas (LNG) fuelled project in the Philippines including LNG supply and floating storage facilities for a proposed combined cycle generating facility;
  • preparation and negotiation of the full suite of EPC and O&M arrangements and support on the offtake and concession arrangements for the Monsoon Wind Project in Lao PDR; and
  • investments by a major US-based firm in connection with investments in a 77-storey multi-use hotel, residential and commercial tower project in Bangkok, Thailand.

He has been involved for decades with the 500 MW Quezon Power project and more recently the 500 MW San Buenaventura supercritical project, supported the 100 MW Cambodian Energy Limited project and more recent 150 MW Cambodian Energy Limited II project, supported both phases of the 78 MW Natural Energy Development project in Lop Buri, and supported the Theppana wind project and the Bowin project both in Thailand, among many others.

He has worked on projects in or with participants from Thailand, the Philippines, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Indonesia, Myanmar, Vietnam, the United States, the People’s Republic of China and European industrial centre countries. He has assisted sponsors, owners and managers with complex agreements and interlocking arrangements and their administration through all phases of their projects, has a good working knowledge of historical transactions and transaction issues, and has worked with many local lawyers licensed in many of these jurisdictions.
