Introduction
Gopika Pant has more than 39 years of legal experience, with a dual qualification in India and New York. She completed her BA (Hons) History from St Stephens College, LLB from Campus Law Centre, Delhi University in 1985 and an LLM from Columbia University in 1986. She was admitted to the Bar Council of Delhi in 1985 and to the New York State Bar Association in 1987. She worked in New York from 1986 to 1990 after which she returned to India and was named a partner in a leading law firm, and then set up Indian Law Partners in 1999.
Pant has significant experience in Indian corporate and commercial laws and is a specialist in cross-border commercial transactions, inbound and outbound, including restructurings, acquisitions, JVs, business alliances, PE investments and exits, insolvency and bankruptcy, banking and finance, infrastructure and project finance, as well as real-property transactions.
Pant’s experience includes advising Times Bank in India’s first private banking merger with HDFC Bank, and Japan Bank for International Cooperation in various equity and debt transactions, including in the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, Takshasila Hospitals and TechnoTrends Auto Parks.
Pant is an independent director in Colgate Palmolive India, ABB India and PayU Payments, and has completed tenures on the boards of various reputed multinational corporations such as GKN Driveline (India), Aegis BPO, Xchanging, and Asset Reconstruction Company (India).
Pant has received various awards and recognitions from several Indian and foreign media, including by Forbes India as one of the top managing partners in India.
She is a keen environmentalist and has completed a diploma in environmental law with the World Wide Fund for Nature. She is an enthusiastic public speaker and has addressed various conferences in India, London, Singapore, Japan, Australia and the US. She has also authored articles in various Indian and international publications.
Pant is a keen sportswoman, having been ranked No. 1 in badminton and No. 2 in squash in New Delhi and No. 3 in squash nationally, and has played several national level championships in India and the Lawyers League Championships in New York.
