Raja Bose

Introduction

Raja Bose leads K&L Gates’ international arbitration practice in Asia, and has 30 years of experience in international dispute resolution.

He has worked in both London and Singapore where he is qualified to practice. He is also a qualified arbitrator and a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators of the UK and the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators. Raja is on the panel of arbitrators at a number of arbitration institutions in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, India, China, Vietnam, Dubai, Paris and London. He was a director at the UK Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Singapore branch. Raja is the chairperson and moderator of two programmes on investor-state disputes and bilateral investment treaty arbitrations. He was instrumental in formulating, proposing, organising, managing and executing these programmes, one of which is the first for the Practising Law Institute in New York (now into its fourth year), the other being the inaugural programme for Global Arbitration Review Academy due to be launched in 2024.

Raja splits his practice into two broad areas. In the area of public international law advisory and disputes, he advises host states on the drafting and negotiation of new bilateral investment treaties particularly in Africa, investment structuring for foreign investors to secure treaty protection, and on investor-state arbitrations and foreign investment disputes brought under investment treaties. His practice also covers international commercial arbitration and mediation, acting as lead counsel as well as an appointed arbitrator in commercial arbitrations with seats in Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Vietnam, China, India, Dubai, Malaysia, London, Paris, Geneva, California, Washington and New York under a variety of trade association and international arbitration centre rules.
