Introduction

Ashish Suman’s practice is focused on the infrastructure sector, including transportation and logistics, power and energy, construction and engineering as well as urban infrastructure and smart cities.

Ashish specialises in joint ventures, acquisitions, strategic collaborations, business restructuring, PPP and infrastructure project advisory. He is also advising clients on a regular basis on contracting (commercial and corporate contracts) and general corporate advisory.

He has worked extensively in the transportation and automotive sector and has experience in handling a large spectrum of complex matters/transactions in the automotive space with a focus on electric vehicles. He has advised large domestic and international automotive companies with regard to their domestic investment, setting up of business, restructuring and investments. He is also advising on regulatory development of new transportation technologies such as hyperloop/PODs etc.

Ashish has also been regularly involved in advising companies in the automotive manufacturing sector across their value chain (including tier-1 and tier-2 suppliers, original equipment manufacturers, dealers/distributors). He advises OEMs in relation to the motor vehicle laws, homologation requirements, emission norms, structuring of the contractual framework, etc. As part of the automotive and clean energy practice, Ashish has advised on electric vehicles, including setting up and operating charging stations and battery swap infrastructure, as well as on relevant policies of the government of India such as the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles in India (FAME) scheme, the performance linked incentive scheme (PLI scheme) and green hydrogen projects.

In relation to infrastructure matters, he has provided legal advice to both private as well as public sector entities, both domestic and international, on a wide range of infrastructure projects including on issues relating to EPC contracts (FIDIC based), NEC-based contracts, DBFOT, BOT (Toll/Annuity), BOOT projects carried out on a PPP basis. He is also instrumental in drafting precedent setting model concession agreements for the roadways and aviation sector, including the EPCM Agreement for the World Bank, agreements under the hybrid annuity model and expressway concession agreements. Additionally, Ashish has also been engaged in advising clients in the evolving clean energy and clean technology space.
