Introduction

Safir Anand is senior partner and head of trademarks, and contractual and commercial IP, at Anand and Anand. He is recognised as one of India’s top IP attorneys and has more than 25 years’ experience in advising and representing clients from diverse industries, from fast-moving consumer goods to pharma, software, social media, food, media, sports, entertainment, luxury, fashion and government.

Safir provides solutions for multidimensional business requirements including brand creation; valuation; risk mitigation; licensing and franchising; corporate taxation (evaluation, risk assessment, counselling on various complicated tax problems, and the consequences of new and updated tax laws that affect the client’s business); brand protection from dilution; commercialisation and monetisation; and due diligence.

He currently serves on INTA’s Commercialisation of Brands Committee, its first Research Advisory Council, and the Global Brand Transactions and Tax Subcommittee.

Together with other global authors, he has contributed to a book published by INTA on business environment trends, and brand value, equity and evaluation.

Safir has joined, by invitation, an expert group at the Confederation of Indian Industry that aims to boost the monetisation practice. He also sits on the board of Fashion Design Council of India, the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations’, India’s premier economic policy think tank, to provide expertise on India’s creative economy.

Safir has written regularly for leading IP media and publications. His most recent work includes Chrysalis, a coffee table book capturing the stories of some of the most trusted brands in India, which was critically acclaimed at its launch at the Jaipur Literature Festival.
