Introduction

Madhu Gadodia is the deputy managing partner and head of the media & entertainment practice of Naik Naik & Co. She is an expert in the field of intellectual property and has extensive experience handling multiple portfolios of work pertaining to gaming and all facets of established and emerging new media. Madhu has advised more than 500 film production and distribution deals, and rendered legal assistance in the acquisition of film libraries and format rights, service agreements, licensing agreements and technology related to intellectual property as well as e-commerce.

Madhu also specialises in the banking and finance domain. She has handled some of the largest claims in debt recovery matters and is now handling a lot of work under the Indian bankruptcy code.

Some of the noteworthy clients she has represented are Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Applause Entertainment, Maddock, Anil Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Ramesh Sippy, Manmohan Shetty, Viacom 18, T-Series, Tips Industries, Saavn, Phantom, Endemol, Creative Eye Ltd, Pen Films Ltd, Friday Film Works, Kwan, Bling, Collective, CA Media, IDFC Bank and Reliance Broadcasting.

Key work highlights:
• Film and Television Producers Guild of India before the MHRD w.r.t the amendments to the Copyright Act, 1957.
• Adlabs Entertainment Ltd in the set-up of theme park Adlabs Imagicaa, including advising on a host of IPR-related issues and other legal aspects.
• BBC Worldwide India on ensuring compliance of their content with applicable Indian laws.
• Reliance Communications and its affiliates (ADAG), in the insolvency proceedings initiated against them by an operational creditor. The matter was taken to the Supreme Court to safeguard the interest of ADAG’s lenders, including major public sector banks.
• Times Studio, a division of Bennett Coleman & Co, in structuring various deals with leading publishers and writers to develop original fiction and non-fiction shows for broadcasters and OTT platforms.
• Lux Industries in a complaint instituted by JG Hosiery before the Advertising Standards Council of India – Consumer Complaint Council Tribunal (Amul Macho Advertisement.)
