With more than 18 years of experience, Shilpa Sachdeva Bhullar heads the team as assistant vice-president responsible for managing the legal affairs of PI Industries and its affiliates. She is chair of the sub-committee on consumer protection, product liability and product recall of the Confederation of Indian Industry and has been recognised by The Legal 500 in The Legal 500 GC Powerlist 2023. She spearheads a team of 11 legal professionals working across the contract life cycle management and trademark, litigation, risk and compliance domains.
The team includes Chetan Khurana, lead – contract management & TM; Sunik Shetty and Sidharth Kanwar, leads – legal contracts; Kirti Agarwal and Udai Lal Vaid, team members – litigation management; Nupur Mantoo, legal consultant; Anuja Chakraborty, team member – risk & compliance; Naman Joshi, risk & compliance associate; Prabhat Kumar Misra, Sant Kumar and Saurabh Warang, paralegal associates.
The team is responsible for making informed business decisions across the company’s PAN India operations and providing in-house transactional legal support for its overseas business in the EU, Asia and the US. It monitors all compliance matters and licences applicable to the company to minimise its risk exposure.
It manages end-to-end contract life cycle for contracts related to various functional and business transactions in accordance with contracting guidelines, charter documents, SOPs read together with its delegation of authority matrix.
The team also safeguards the company’s trademark portfolio to ensure brand protection, and that it is in line with the overall branding strategy of the company, including opposition against infringing marks, cease and desist notices for infringing products in the market, monitoring and taking action against counterfeit products. This includes supporting copyrights, designs and labels, etc.
It handles dispute resolution, managing end-to-end litigation caseload including court appearances, mediations and depositions, etc., conducting legal research, analysing and formulating legal strategies, and assisting internal departments in legal interpretations. The team identifies, evaluates and mitigates various levels of risks based on risk criticality along with business stakeholders. It is responsible for developing SOPs, and the framing and formulation of various policies.
