Introduction

Harsh Hiroo Gursahani, a partner at PLR Chambers, heads the food law and product compliance practice at the firm, advising and representing some of the world’s largest food, retail and FMCG companies.

He has assisted these companies on regulatory and compliance matters before authorities and courts in India.

Harsh has been widely recognised for his expertise in food laws, legal metrology and product compliance by industry and professional associations in India and abroad. He is the India member of the Food Lawyers Network Worldwide, an FSSAI certified food safety mitra, the regulatory member for the All India Food Processors’ Association, a member of APEDA’s committee on the National Programme for Vegan Products, among others.

As a sector specialist, Harsh has been advising and assisting the food and beverage industry across all spectrums of food laws and regulations, including recipe checks, product classification, novel foods, product approvals, licensing support, regulatory audits and due diligence, compliance assistance, label vetting, product and health claims, import compliance, recall and crisis management, e-commerce compliances, consumer complaints and litigation before various forums across India.

His comprehensive repertoire in product compliance laws and extensive experience in assessing regulatory and legal implications enables him to advise clients on a range of issues pertaining to consumer protection; legal metrology; standards; BIS registrations and certifications; and regulations relating to plastic waste management, pollution control, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, advertising, chemicals, fertilisers, and agricultural compliances.

Harsh also leads the international trade and investment law practice at PLR Chambers. He advises the Indian government on WTO agreements, dispute settlement, trade policy and negotiations. Additionally, he represents India involving disputes in the WTO and international investment arbitrations. As an expert on subsidies, the services trade, and on non-tariff barriers [both sanitary and phytosanitary and technical barriers to trade-related issues], Harsh is routinely engaged by international organisations, governments, and industry associations for consultancy and advice.
