Introduction

Kirana Sastrawijaya is a senior partner of UMBRA – Strategic Legal Solutions and is one of the best power lawyers in Indonesia with more than 17 years of practical experience in the fields of power, energy, construction and infrastructure. She has represented major international and local clients (including government-owned Perusahaan Listrik Negara and its major subsidiaries, Pembangkitan Jawa Bali and Indonesia Power) in various high-profile power and infrastructure deals (having a combined capacity of more than 5,000MW) and has extensive experience in drafting and negotiating all type of projects documents including power purchase agreements (covering all types of PPAs for different power plants), EPC contracts, O&M contracts and fuel supply contracts.

Kirana is also well versed in renewables, oil and gas, project financing, public-private partnership scheme, M&A in the energy and natural resources sectors, state-owned enterprises, regional-owned enterprises and has built a close relationship with government institutions and international and local NGOs for the preparation of relevant regulations related to power, energy and renewables in Indonesia.

As a testament to her expertise in the field of power and renewables, she also serves as the youngest member of the board of experts of Masyarakat Ketenagalistrikan Indonesia (Indonesian Electricity Society) and is an active member of Masyarakat Energi Terbarukan (Indonesian Renewable Energy Society).

In less than 5 years, she has successfully led the group from a single lawyer to be one of the largest power, energy and infrastructure practice groups in Indonesia with a total of 30 members (including 3 partners and 1 off-counsel) that consistently led in some of the largest and most complex Indonesian power and energy-related deals within the last four years. She also has obtained acknowledgement from international directories, including (i) as an energy and project lawyer in the Asia Pacific Chambers and Global Chambers since 2020; (ii) as the leading energy and infrastructure project financing specialist of the year, Indonesia by 2021 Leading Adviser Awards; (iii) as a highly regarded lawyer in project finance, M&A and project development by IFLR1000; (iv) as Indonesia’s 100 Top Lawyer by Asia Business Law Journal since 2021; and most recently, (v) as one of IFLR1000 Women Leaders 2022
