Introduction

Christian Teo is the founder and currently managing partner of Christian Teo & Partners, an Indonesian leading corporate and commercial law firm.

His corporate and commercial practice areas cover telecommunications, media and technology startups; hotel, property and real estate; hospitality and entertainment industry; corporate, commercial and franchising; trade and retail industry. He continuously advises clients on the Indonesian legal aspects of foreign and domestic investment, IT, telecommunication projects, real estate and hotel transactions; franchising; structuring and drafting joint ventures, corporate and transaction documentation; and corporate restructuring.

While Christian’s telecommunications, media and technology practice involves regulatory works, projects, restructuring and technology startups, his hotel, property and hospitality practice ranges from representing owners and operators in management and operational contracts and negotiating commercial and office property leases on behalf of landlord and lessees. His F&B and lifestyle practice cover franchising and lifestyle outlets. His retail and trade practice deals with offline trading and e-commerce setups, including its payment systems and financial technologies. He also advises clients on employment law, focusing on white-collar employment issues such as executive hiring and employment dispute.

He speaks Bahasa Indonesia as his mother tongue, fluent English, conversational Hakka dialect and Mandarin.

Christian Teo graduated from the University of Indonesia, Faculty of Law, SH or LLB (1990) and later did his post-graduate at the University of Sydney, Faculty of Law, LLM (1997)

He started his legal career in 1989 with an internship with the litigation firm Frans Hendra Winarta & Partners, later joined Hadiputranto, Hadinoto & Partners (HHP) as an associate in 1990, senior associate (1994) and then became partner in 1997. During his time with HHP, he was the head of the IT and telecommunications practice, the chair of the company law project, a professional development unit in relation to corporation law issues and leader of the franchising and property, hotel, resort and tourism practice. His management responsibilities included developing and maintaining the firm’s website and overseeing the social activities of the firm’s members.

He then chose his own path by founding Christian Teo & Associates in 2004, now Christian Teo & Partners, and continues making his marks.
