Owen Chio

Introduction

Owen Chio is a partner and senior legal consultant in the Taipei office of K&L Gates. Chio has more than 25 years of experience advising on (i) cross-border M&As in energy, high-tech, biotech and other sectors, (ii) major energy and construction projects, (iii) corporate compliance, and (iv) cross-border commercial disputes.

Prior to joining K&L Gates, Chio was a partner, executive consultant and the global co-head of the compliance practice of the Taipei office of a global law firm with a strategic alliance with a Big Four. Before then, he worked at the Taipei office of a global law firm for 15 years, including as a partner and senior consultant, co-chair of corporate compliance, deputy chair of foreign investment approval, and CSR partner of the firm. Chio worked in the Hong Kong office of a UK Magic Circle firm before returning to Taiwan.

In addition to being named as among the Top 100 Lawyers in Taiwan by Asia Business Law Journal, Chio is recognised by International Financial Law Review as a “Leading Lawyer – Highly Regarded”.

Chio holds an LLM from King’s College University of London, an LLB from University of Manchester, an MBA from National Taiwan University, a postgraduate degree from the University of Oxford, a BA from Simon Fraser University, and an Advanced Certificate in International Arbitration from the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

Chio is qualified as a solicitor of England and Wales, a barrister of England and Wales (non-practising), and as an attorney admitted in the State of New York.
