Christian TEO

Introduction

Christian Teo is the founder and currently managing partner of Christian Teo & Partners, an Indonesian leading corporate and commercial law firm.

His corporate and commercial practice areas cover TMT, hotel, property and real estate, hospitality and entertainment industry, corporate/commercial and franchising, trade, and retail industry. He continuously advises clients on the Indonesian legal aspects of foreign and domestic investment, information technology, telecommunication projects, real estate and hotel transactions, franchising, structuring and drafting joint ventures, corporate and transaction documentation, and corprate re-structuring.

While Teo’s TMT practice involve regulatory works and projects (which includes development of satellite communication and submarine cable telecom networks); his hotel, property and hospitality practice ranges from representing owners and operators in management and operational contracts and negotiating commercial and office property leases on behalf of landlord and lessees. His F&B and lifestyle practice covers franchising, lifestyle outlets and his retail and trade practice deals with FMCG industry and both offline trading and e-commerce set ups, including its payment systems and financial technologies. He is also advising clients on employment law, focusing on white-collar employment issues such as executives hiring and employment disputes.

He speaks Bahasa Indonesia as his first language, fluent English, conversational Hakka dialect and understanding of Mandarin.

Teo graduated from the University of Indonesia, Faculty of Law, SH (1990) and later did his post-graduate at the University of Sydney, Faculty of Law, LLM (1997).

He started his legal career in 1989 with an internship with a litigation firm, later joined Hadiputranto, Hadinoto & Partners (now HHP Firm) as an associate in 1990, senior associate (1994) and then became partner in 1997. During his time with that firm, he led the information technology/telecommunications practice, and developed the franchising and property/hotel, resort and tourism practice. His also shared management responsibilities by taking charge of the development and maintenance of firm’s website and promoting the work life balance of the firm’s members.

He then decided to walk on his own path by founding Christian Teo & Associates in 2004, now Christian Teo & Partners, and continues making his marks.
