Introduction

Yusuke Sahashi is a partner at Anderson Mori & Tomotsune and currently serves as the representative partner of the firm’s Nagoya office.

He specialises in a broad range of legal services, with a particular focus on M&A. His expertise includes public and private transactions, domestic and cross-border acquisitions, corporate reorganisations and joint ventures. In addition, he advises on general corporate legal matters, including corporate governance, real estate transactions, licensing agreements and commercial contracts. Earlier in his career, Sahashi was seconded to the M&A advisory division of a securities firm, where he gained extensive experience in corporate acquisitions.

In the field of M&A, Sahashi consistently delivers strategic and effective support for complex corporate acquisition cases within Japan. He is also highly experienced in cross-border transactions, handling intricate matters that span multiple jurisdictions and regulatory challenges. He has successfully navigated cases involving foreign direct investment regulations, including an instance where a government decision was reconsidered as a result of his intervention. His advisory work covers both inbound and outbound transactions, reflecting his nuanced understanding of global business dynamics.

Drawing on his expertise, Sahashi frequently conducts seminars on topics such as corporate acquisitions, takeover defence strategies and inbound investment. He is also an active writer, producing insightful publications for both domestic and international audiences. His writings explore a variety of subjects, including Japan’s M&A regulations and trends, Guidelines for Corporate Takeovers, published by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan. He has also written on the intersection of intellectual property law and M&A, as well as writings on legal considerations for startups.

Sahashi earned his LLB from the University of Tokyo (2006) and his LLM from the University of Southern California (2015). He has been licensed to practise law in Japan since 2008 and in New York since 2016. He is a certified member analyst (CMA) accredited by the Securities Analysts Association of Japan.
