Introduction

James Hsiao is a senior partner at Dentons Taiwan with more than 20 years of experience in cross-border transactional matters. James’ practice encompasses advising on the full spectrum of capital markets, M&A, private equity, acquisition finance and real estate matters, including M&A, IPO, securities offering, private placement, block trade, and private equity investment.

In particular, James is specialised in outbound M&A for Taiwan-listed companies to acquire foreign listed or private companies, inbound M&A for private equity firms or multinational companies to acquire Taiwan-listed or private companies, and cross-border securities offerings, including foreign companies to list on Taiwan securities market and Taiwan companies to go IPO or issue a global depositary receipt or European convertible bond on foreign stock exchanges.

He is the go-to lawyer for bulge bracket investment banks and private equity funds, and is well respected as a rainmaker in business and legal circles in Taiwan. He is well recognised for the quality, technical accuracy and commercial nature of his advice, which involved judgment calls or complex issues. James has strong drafting skills, a broad commercial perspective gained through a long period of running transactions, and the ability to master details. He is solution-oriented and enjoys collaborating with and listening to clients and sees the importance of appreciating their perspectives and needs.

James received his LLB degree from Soochow University and an LLM degree from the New York University School of Law and is admitted to both the New York State Bar and the Bar of Taipei. Prior to Dentons Taiwan, James had worked with Jones Day and Baker McKenzie.
