Introduction
Llewellyn L Llanillo is admitted to law practice in the Philippines and New York, and advises and sits on the board of various Philippine corporations.
He was formerly senior counsel and a managing partner of SyCip Salazar Hernandez & Gatmaitan (SyCipLaw). He also chaired SyCipLaw’s executive committee up to 2009 when he retired. As the chair of SyCipLaw’s IP practice group from 1981 to 2005, he was largely responsible for establishing and growing that firm’s IP law practice. After retiring from SyCipLaw, he joined Salvador Llanillo & Mijares (SLM) in 2015 as a senior partner and the head of SLM’s IP law practice.
Admitted to the bar, 1969 (Philippines) and 1987 (New York). Education: Ateneo de Davao University (AB); University of the Philippines (LLB); Suffolk University Law School (LLM in US and Global Business Law); Lazarski University (LLM in Transnational Commercial Practice); De La Salle College, MBA courses.
He has served as the president of the Philippine Bar Association and the Integrated Bar of the Philippines Makati Chapter, and as the executive director of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines.
He was also the president of the Philippines National Committee of Union Internationale des Avocats, the president of the Licensing Executives Society Philippines, the Intellectual Property Association of the Philippines, the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property Philippine Group, and the Asian Patent Attorneys Association Philippine Group.
He is currently the executive vice president of Lawasia Philippines, and the Philippine vice president of the international legal networks Justinian Lawyers and Association of European Attorneys. He is a member of International Association of Defence Counsel and a vice chair of its IP committee. He has published numerous legal articles and lectured on various topics, with the most recent being on succession planning and startups.
