Introduction
John Maynard G Atotubo is a senior partner of PunoLaw, with a practice spanning 28 years.
Atotubo is one of the leading advisers in the Philippines on M&A, joint ventures and corporate restructurings. He is counsel to GT Capital Holdings in its acquisition of a significant stake in Metro Pacific Investments Corporation, one of the leading conglomerates in the Philippines with interests in power, water, tollways, healthcare, rail and logistics. Atotubo is counsel to Federal Land in its PHP50 billion (USD874.5 million) joint venture with Nomura Real Estate Corporation of Japan, creating one of the largest real estate developers in the Philippines. He advised Marubeni Corporation of Japan on its acquisition of a strategic stake in Maynilad Water Services, one of the largest water concessionaires in the Philippines. In addition, he acts for Next North Holdings in its acquisition and development of a 400MW solar farm in the northern Philippines.
Recognised as a sought-after law practitioner in the real estate industry, Atotubo’s clients include Federal Land, one of the largest real estate developers in the country, with projects in Manila, Makati, Mandaluyong, Cebu and Cavite. He also counsels Arthaland Corporation, publicly listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange and the pioneer developer of premium green and sustainable developments. He advised GT Capital Holdings on its purchase of a majority stake in Property Company of Friends, a major player in the affordable housing segment, and represents the Anchor Land Group in its development projects in Metro Manila. His know-how spans the full gamut of land acquisition, township development, construction and operation.
Atotubo specialises in engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts, and advises major players in the power industry – including SN Aboitiz Power Group, Trina Solar Group, Engie Energy, Blue Leaf Energy Philippines, Alterenergy Holdings Corporation, Prime Meridian PowerGen Corporation, Citicore Power and PowerSource Philippines Energy, Inc. His EPC expertise covers hydro-electric, natural gas, battery energy, coal and solar technologies.
He also acts as corporate secretary for numerous Philippine companies engaged in the power, real estate, water distribution and manpower services sectors. In addition, he advises several US and Japanese companies doing business in the Philippines, such as the Revolve Group, MSC Tool Co and Sega Sammy Creation.
Atotubo obtained his Juris Doctor degree, with honours, from the Ateneo de Manila University School of Law in 1997, and his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from the University of the Philippines in 1992.
