Introduction
Felix Sy is the managing partner of Sy & Partners. The firm entered into a strategic alliance with Nishimura & Asahi, Japan’s largest law firm, to be its member firm in the Philippines. Sy is known for delivering timely and commercially aware legal solutions and providing top-notch quality legal services across a diverse range of practices, industries and clients. He specialises in M&A, banking and finance, insurance, energy and renewables, and technology.
Sy is qualified to practise law in the Philippines and California. He is a founding trustee of the Energy Lawyers Association of the Philippines. He is also an accredited technical consultant with the Asian Development Bank on anti-money laundering and combating terrorist financing.
He was previously the managing partner of the member firm in the Philippines of the Asean law firm network, ZICO Law. He was a partner and banking and finance/insurance practice group head, as well as energy and infrastructure industry group head at Baker & McKenzie Philippines.
Sy has won numerous awards, rankings and recognitions, including the deal of the year award for advising the winning bidder in the largest privatisation and energy deal in the Philippines.
He sits on various boards of corporates and non-profits and foreign chambers of commerce (as independent director, non-executive director, executive director, risk management chair, audit committee, corporate governance committee). Sy is also a fellow of the Institute of Corporate Directors.
Sy graduated as the valedictorian (gold medal in academic excellence) of his master’s in national security administration class at the National Defence College of the Philippines (NDCP) and ranked first in a class of 75 students consisting of senior military officers, foreign officers, and government officials and the private sector. He is the principal member (representing the private sector) of the NDCP Board of Admissions. He also holds the rank of Commander (Lieutenant Colonel) with the Philippine Navy (Reserves).
He is a founding director of a strategic and security think tank called the International Development and Security Co-operation.
In addition to legal, regulatory and compliance expertise and experience, Sy advises on business and strategy development, risk management, crisis management, strategic communications, geopolitical/economic, and national security insights and policy perspectives.
