Introduction
Alex Ferdinand S Fider is a senior partner of the Angara Abello Concepcion Regala & Cruz Law Offices. He currently heads the firm’s corporate social responsibility department and was the immediate past head of the IP department.
He teaches IP law in the University of the Philippines and the De La Salle University.
He obtained his master of laws from Queen Mary and Westfield College (now Queen Mary College), University of London and Bachelor of Laws from the University of the Philippines.
He assists foreign and local clients from various industries ranging from food manufacturing to sportswear to entertainment in the protection and enforcement of their IP rights in the Philippines. He has advised international organisations including the International Rice Research Institute, World Fish Centre, the Japan Export Trade Organization and the EC-ASEAN Intellectual Property Cooperation Program II on matters involving IP rights in the Philippines.
He extends pro-bono legal advice to non-governmental organisations with mandate to achieve food security, women empowerment and access to education and water resources pursuant to the corporate social responsibility policy of the firm.
His academic publications include the Philippine Chapters of six authoritative textbooks published by Kluwer Law International (London) as part of the Max Planck Series on Asian Intellectual Property Law and the Applied Research Centre for Intellectual Assets and the Law in Asia, Singapore Management University; namely: Annotated Leading Patent Cases in Major Asian Jurisdiction, Enforcement of Patents, Copyright Law and the Information Society in Asia, Parallel Imports in Asia, Intellectual Property Law in Asia; and, The Protection of Well-Known Marks in Asia.
He is a member of the professor & adjuncts subcommittee of the International Trademark Association. He is co-chairman of the Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA) Academy. He the chairman of the board of directors of the Intellectual Property Association of the Philippines.
Fider is consistently recognised in various publications as a leading lawyer in the practice area of IP in the Philippines.
