Introduction

Melli Darsa is a lawyer with a legal career spanning over 30 years. Founder and senior partner of Melli Darsa & Co Advocates & Legal Consultants (MDC) and a member of the global network of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) since 2017, she also serves as the leader of PwC Indonesia’s legal line of service.

Her specialisation is in investment law issues, as well as M&A transactions, financing and securities. Melli’s industrial focus since 1998 has been primarily on the banking and financial industry, shifting to state-owned clients over the past 15 years. Her work is generally transactional, but Melli’s expertise is often used in complex legal studies and in identifying and mitigating legal risks, as well as ensuring regulatory compliance. Since joining PwC, she has increasingly worked on the transformation and restructuring of government institutions, and SOEs.

Starting as a general commercial lawyer and capital markets expert in the early 90s, she handled some of the largest corporate restructuring and transactions in banking and financial services after the 1997 Asian financial crisis and the country’s transformation post-Reformasi, and continued to conduct M&A and securities work across various industries, including non-financial services such as telecommunications, integrated mining industries, oil and gas.

A graduate of the Faculty of Law of University of Indonesia and Harvard Law School, Darsa is qualified to practice both in Indonesia and New York. She founded MDC in November 2002 after being an international partner at Baker McKenzie. Many MDC alumni have become leaders in global law firms and general counsels in Indonesian state-owned enterprises and unicorns.

Melli is currently vice-chairperson of the legal and regulatory affairs of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN). In addition, She is also president of Harvard Club Indonesia and an Asia-Pacific regional director of the Harvard Alumni Association. She is an Eisenhower Fellow, a fellowship for international leaders.
