Introduction

Jonathan Streifer is a senior foreign counsel at SSEK Legal Consultants. He has more than 20 years of experience living and working in Jakarta as a corporate lawyer, during which time he has assisted numerous multinationals and domestic companies with projects and transactions across nearly every sector of the Indonesian economy.

He assists clients on strategic investments in the technology sector, infrastructure projects, private equity and venture capital financings, direct foreign investment, corporate finance, and labour and employment matters. He has been recognised as a leading practitioner in Indonesia for corporate law and M&A, financial and corporate law, and projects and natural resources by independent legal directories including Chambers & Partners, IFLR1000 and Asialaw.

Clients, in discussing his work, told IFLR1000 that he is “experienced in handling international clients and provided sophisticated answers to our queries,” and that he is “very capable and responsive.”

Jonathan’s experience includes acting as Indonesian counsel to Qualcomm Incorporated in its strategic investment in Mobile-8 Telecom (also known as Smartfren), Neovia Group (also kniwn as InVivo NSA) in reorganising its Indonesia operations, Shinhan Financial Group in its acquisition of Makinta Securities, Lotte Corporation in its online marketplace joint venture with Salim Group, JX Nippon and a number of other Japanese companies. Among others, he represented Showa Denko in its US$500 million chemical grade alumina project in Kalimantan.

Jonathan earned his JD from the University of California at Berkeley (Boalt Hall) School of Law in 1992 and is a member of the State Bar of California. He previously worked with the San Francisco firm of Shartsis Friese on venture capital financings and mergers and acquisitions. He has been with SSEK since 2002.
