Introduction

Syed Afzal Hasan Uddin is a barrister and is the managing partner at Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed & Associates, with more than 25 years of experience in advising clients in the areas of M&A, restructuring, financing, and re-financing, oil and gas exploration, power generation, telecommunications, project finance, due diligence of companies and general corporate affairs.

Afzal sits on the board of one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in Bangladesh. He is an experienced arbitrator and has successfully defended a client before the World Bank Administrative Tribunal and represented clients in International Arbitration matters. He advised many multilateral agencies of large infrastructure investments. Afzal has been involved in most major M& A transactions in Bangladesh, including large acquisitions and controlling stake in listed entities.

Afzal has reviewed the draft legislation circulated by the Law Reform Commission on information technology, copyright laws, competition laws and has advised the commission on suggested amendments to the newly enacted Arbitration Act, 2001.
