Introduction

M Imtiaz Farooq is an advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. His major practice areas include M&A, large infrastructure projects, development projects, capital market financing, and project finance. Farooq has advised on the Robi-Airtel merger, transfer of FMO’s shares in Dutch-Bangla Bank, Norfund’s equity investment in Mutual Trust Bank, etc. He has advised on large infrastructure projects like the LNG Floating Storage and Regasification Unit in Maheshkhali and Bangladesh’s first elevated expressway project in Dhaka.

Noted for advising clients on capital market financing, he was common counsel for the issuance of Bangladesh’s first-ever perpetual bond by City Bank and first-ever Mudaraba bond by EXIM Bank. He is the leading lawyer in the project finance sector with a clientele comprising all major development financial institutions, e.g., World Bank, ADB, FMO, DEG etc. He also advises Fortune-500 companies and appears before the country’s apex court.
