Lucy Rana

Introduction

Lucy Rana, a managing partner at SS Rana & Co, read law at the University of Delhi specialising in intellectual property laws and was enrolled at the Bar Council of Delhi in 2007. With more than 25 years of experience in the legal practice and the corporate world, she has an in-depth understanding of micro and macro factors influencing businesses, and provides legal advice to many Fortune 500, national and international companies on a range of IP and corporate matters. She regularly conducts due diligence with an emphasis on IP-related issues and leads the firm’s trademarks, IP enforcement, IP watch and domain-name dispute resolution teams.

With a background in business management, Lucy focuses on bridging the gap between legal services and business solutions. She oversees various verticals, collaborating closely with clients on brand protection, IP management and corporate commercial issues. Her professional journey has been a dynamic fusion of business and law, bringing transformative changes to the legal practices of the firm.

Lucy has also been conferred with several accolades, such as the Women Entrepreneurship Award — the Nari Udyamita Puraskar in 2018, recognising her impactful contributions, and the Speaker Award for her expertise in intellectual property rights by PHD Chamber in 2016. She also recently featured in the Top 10 Alumni Leaders from the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade IIFT 12 23 by the CEO Insights magazine.

She is also a member of several national and international IP organisations such as the International Trademark Association, the Asian Patent Attorneys Association, the Inter-Pacific Bar Association, the Licensing Executive Society, the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property, the Supreme Court Bar Association and the Delhi High Court Bar Association. She was appointed as an arbitrator by NIXI to adjudicate .IN domain name disputes under the .IN Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy.

Lucy has been instrumental in spreading IP awareness and has been a visionary in establishing IP4Kids, a CSR initiative of the firm that aims to spread awareness, promote creativity and innovation among youth.

Lucy finds solace beyond her busy schedule through music and travel. She enjoys playing the piano and singing at gatherings or parties.
