Introduction
Krrishan Singhania, the founder and managing partner of K Singhania & Co in Mumbai, leverages his extensive background as a lawyer in premier law firms in New York and London to instil international best practices into the firm. Since its establishment more than 30 years ago, the firm has provided legal expertise in international commercial arbitration, aviation, shipping, oil and gas, corporate and intellectual property laws to a diverse clientele spanning national and international domains.
Commencing his legal journey in 1988 alongside his mentor and father, the late DC Singhania, a stalwart in alternative dispute resolution, Krisshan played a pivotal role in the drafting committee of the Indian arbitration law of 1996. Notably, he represented his client in the landmark case of NTPC v Singer (1993). In 1994, he founded the firm, and has since earned acclaim in shipping, international arbitration, commercial and construction disputes through recognitions from Benchmark Litigation, India Business Law Journal, Asian Legal Business and the India Legal Awards 2019.
Consistently ranked among India’s top lawyers by IBLJ’s A-List since 2019, Singhania received the Global Lex-Falcon Awards 2022 for impactful contributions to the legal industry. His insights on various commercial laws, including arbitration, intellectual property and company law, are regularly published in international and domestic journals.
Among his notable cases, Krisshan successfully defended a foreign airline against the Airport Authority of India before the Bombay High Court. He has excelled in representing clients in international and domestic arbitrations under the ICC rules, CENTA rules, and the London Metal Exchange arbitration rules. In shipping law, he secured favourable outcomes for a Swiss company by obtaining orders from three different high courts to unload cargo and arrest a ship. Additionally, he advises foreign clients on business operations in India, offering support in incorporation, commercial contracts, intellectual property protection, and dispute resolution.
He is also an active member of the International Business Committee of the Indian Merchants Chamber and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators London, a former jurisdictional council member of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association, a legal committee member at the EU Chambers and an empanelled arbitrator at the Bombay High Court.
