MinterEllison has advised Sumitomo Metal Mining Oceania, the Australian subsidiary of Japan’s Sumitomo Metal Mining, on the formation of a joint venture with Strategic Energy Resources for the Bulimba Project, a gold exploration initiative in northeast Queensland, for an undisclosed amount.
Partner and Japan practice leader Geread Dooley and senior associate Naota Suzuki led the team.
MinterEllison advised on all legal aspects of the transaction, including due diligence, the preparation and negotiation of transaction documents, goods and services tax and stamp duty advice, and completion.
Comprising four exploration licences, the Bulimba Project will focus on the underexplored extension of the Palmerville Fault-Gamboola Fault Zone, which is considered highly prospective for intrusion-related gold systems.
