Singapore boutique firm Focus Law Asia, has recruited Elizabeth Fong as director and head of corporate – most recently a general counsel and company secretary at both GXS Bank and Asia Pacific Exchange (APEX) – to expand the firm’s expertise in corporate and commercial transactions.

“Elizabeth’s arrival bolsters our ability to offer best-in-class, end-to-end support, from structuring entities and assisting with regulatory approvals, to advising boards and management on governance, executing high-stakes commercial and corporate transactions, and advancing the wider community through impact law,” Shem Khoo, the managing director at Focus Law, told Asia Business Law Journal.

As a general counsel and company secretary at GXS Bank (owned by Grab and Singtel) and APEX, Fong played a pivotal role in securing major regulatory approvals, including licences for APEX’s exchange and clearing house operations and one of Singapore’s first full digital bank licences for GXS Bank.

Prior to working at GXS Bank and APEX, Fong held Asia-Pacific privacy roles at JP Morgan and Meta, and advised on privacy, data protection, and technology matters, shaping regional regulatory approaches and embedding privacy considerations into product development and data-driven business models.

“With Elizabeth leading the corporate practice, our objective is to position ourselves as the go-to firm for complex entity structuring, licensing and corporate matters, leveraging on a deep knowledge of operational and financial requirements to transform legal and compliance into strategic advantages,” said Khoo.
