Introduction
Simeon Marcelo had a very remarkable career in his practice of law covering more than four decades since 1980. In his first two decades, he was already considered one of the country’s top litigators, having represented top corporations, public institutions like the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), President Fidel Ramos, then Vice President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Henry Sy, Sr and other prominent individuals.
In February 2001, he was appointed as solicitor general. Marcelo was appointed in 2002 as the youngest ombudsman, the head of the country’s constitutional anti-corruption body. He led the prosecution team that secured the historical plunder charge conviction of a former president.
Having returned to private practice in 2008, his services were immediately engaged by big corporations, including the BSP to handle the biggest bank fraud case in the country’s history. Currently, he serves as legal counsel in important cases in various courts, including the Supreme Court.
