Introduction

Rudra Kumar Pandey is an equity partner at Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co with more than 20 years’ experience in M&A and corporate advisory. Rudra has been very actively involved in various national and international transactions for Indian and foreign clients.

His areas of expertise include corporate structuring, M&A, takeovers, delisting, private equity investments, joint ventures, real estate, banking and finance, project finance, establishment, and management of funds. Rudra’s breadth of experience encompasses key industry sectors that include manufacturing, automobile, media & entertainment, telecommunications, banking, NBFCs, IT, SEZs, trading, cement, coal, pharmaceuticals, real estate, industrial parks, retail and insurance. Rudra leads the Japan initiatives of the firm and supports other international desks.

He has been actively involved with the government of India in discussing and actively taking up trade issues under the CEPA and other bilateral arrangements with Asian countries including Japan. He actively assists Shardul Shroff, the firm’s chairman with trade associations such as the FICCI and CII and worked with the several committees constituted by the government on the ease of doing business in India including review of the labour laws regime, licences and approvals and other business law reforms, new industrial policy, and several other policy initiatives.

Rudra has also interacted and helped the government on various policy issues including the Companies Act, 2013, FDI policy issues, and other regulatory/legal enactments. He recently assisted the Company Law Committee constituted by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, on the cost audit regulations in India, and on the recent proposed amendments to the Companies Act, 2013, decriminalisation of offences under the Companies Act, 2013, the LLP Act, 2008, and review of FDI policy.

Rudra is a member of the CII Task Force on the Ease of Doing Business, the CII National Committee on Regulatory Affairs, CII Task Force on Insolvency and Bankruptcy, FICCI Corporate Law Committee and the FICCI Stressed Assets Committee.

Rudra has been recognised as a Notable Practitioner for M&A and Private Equity by IFLR1000, 2018-2022. Rudra has also featured in India Business Law Journal’s A-List of Top Lawyers and Top 50 Lawyers by Asian Legal Business in 2021 and 2022. He was also recognised in Forbes India Legal Power List 2021 among India’s Top 100 Lawyers.
