Introduction

Anoop Rawat is a partner at Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co. He has more than 19 years of experience in practice areas including insolvency and bankruptcy, projects and project finance, and banking and finance. He works closely with Shardul Shroff on bankruptcy and insolvency, and is at the cutting edge of legal advisory services provided by the firm in this field.

As a valued contributor to this practice, Anoop has represented clients across a wide spectrum, including resolution professionals, the committee of creditors and the resolution applicants. He has also represented various resolution applicants, Indian and foreign private equity players and other strategic investors in evaluating investment opportunities in the Indian stressed assets market and strategising the investments inter alia for such investors.

Anoop was instrumental in the successful insolvency resolution of Bhushan Steel Limited, which resulted in the takeover of the steel company by Tata Steel at an aggregate consideration of INR352 billion (USD4.3 billion). Anoop also led the team advising different stakeholders on the resolution of Bhushan Power & Steel Limited, Amtek Auto Limited and Reliance Infratel Limited and other stressed entities. He is currently advising the resolution professional of Reliance Communication Limited, Videocon group of companies, Lavasa Corporation Limited etc. on the corporate insolvency resolution process including regular advice on complex issues arising out of the insolvency resolution processes.

Recently, Anoop has been ranked Band 2 for Restructuring & Insolvency by Chambers and Partners, Asia Pacific Guide 2023. He has been consistently ranked as a leading lawyer for restructuring by Chambers and Partners for the past three years. He has been featured among IBLJ’s A-List of India’s Top Lawyers, 2020-2022. He has been recognised as a Distinguished Practitioner for Restructuring and Insolvency by Asialaw Profiles, 2022-2023. Anoop was ranked Highly Regarded for Restructuring and Insolvency, Project Development, Banking, Project Finance by IFLR1000 Asia Pacific Rankings, 2022.
