China’s Huawei Technologies has challenged US company InterDigital’s patent licensing practice in a rare reversal where a Chinese high-tech company is launching an IP battle against a Western company on the global stage.
The case has also drawn considerable public attention because “it is about issues like the authorisation of patented standards and IP monopoly,” said Zhang Xu, a founding partner at HFG Law Firm & Intellectual Property Practice in Shanghai.
Huawei announced on 24 May on its official website that the company had filed an anti-trust complaint a day earlier with the European Commission against InterDigital, a developer of core wireless technologies for mobile devices.
