Dorsey & Whitney announced in August that it has established a special counsel relationship with Martin Hu & Partners (MHP) in Shanghai. As special counsel to Dorsey, MHP will be available to advise Dorsey and its clients on PRC law. On the other side of the equation, as special foreign counsel to MHP, Dorsey will advise MHP and its clients in respect to jurisdictions in which Dorsey is permitted to practise.

As of last month, the two firms have moved to adjacent offices in Kerry Parkside in Pudong.

MHP has a team of 20 corporate and commercial lawyers in Shanghai. The founding partner, Martin Hu, is a well-known figure in Shanghai’s legal community, and holds a position on the Shanghai People’s Political Consultative Conference, the top political supervisory body in China.

Dorsey & Whitney is a based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with strong practices in financial services, life sciences, technology, agribusiness and energy. Since the arrival of Peter Corne as managing partner in Dorsey’s Shanghai office at the end of last year (see China Business Law Journal volume 1, issue 10, page 11), the firm has undergone significant change, including the departure of partner Jay Yan to Reed Smith (see China Business Law Journal volume 2 issue 7, page 11).
