Introduction
Mila Federis is co-founder and managing partner of Federis & Associates, a boutique IP firm in the Philippines. The firm has been the top trademark filer in the Philippines for the last 12 years. Federis leads the firm’s very active litigation team, winning notable cases for Philips, Yahoo!, Bridgestone, Chanel, Philip morris, among others.
Federis works with clients from a wide range of industries, including pharmaceuticals, hotels, electronics, telecommunications and IT. She counsels clients in trademark portfolio management, trademark filing strategy, among others.
Federis obtained degrees in bachelor of science in zoology and bachelor of laws from the University of the Philippines. After her initial experience working in a law firm in the Philippines, she went to the US and worked for two law firms for seven years, where she gained experience in trademark filing and prosecution at the US Patents & Trademarks Office (USPTO). There she managed clients’ foreign filing programmes and supervised inter partes cases filed in different jurisdictions.
Federis has received numerous awards as an outstanding IP lawyer in the Philippines. She has made the list of Top 100 Lawyers in the Philippines each year since 2018, Who’s Who Legal Trademark since 2017, IP Stars 2017, Who’s Who Legal Patents 2018, World’s Leading Lawyer in 2018.
Federis is active in IP organisations like INTA, APAA, AIPLA, AIPPI, IPO, ECTA, MARQUES, and AIPA. She works with INTA committees, conducted panel discussions, represented INTA at an Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation IP Rights Experts’ Group consultation.
Federis is a frequent lecturer in IP seminars in the Philippines and other countries. She is a regular contributor in these INTA publications: Anti-Counterfeiting in Asia and the Pacific Rim, International Oppositions Guide, Country Guides, Madrid Practitioner’s Guide, and Enforcement Guide. She was also a contributor in Getting the Deal Through: Patents and Getting the Deal Through: Trademarks.
